IEC Plug Type O

Mainly used in : Thailand only

Round pin grounded mains line plug with a pins diameter of 4.8mm.

This configuration has a rated current of 16 amps, a rated voltage of max. 250 Volts AC and is the official standard exclusively in Thailand.

Published in 2006 this configuration is based on the TIS 166-2549 standard and replaces the numerous mains plug configurations that are used in Thailand today.

Currently, the American configuration NEMA 1-15 and NEMA 5-15 is used mainly.

Since there are combination sockets used in Thailand, which support both the American plugs (IEC Type A and Type B) as well as the new configuration, it was not possible to establish the new standard according to IEC Type O configuration until today.

European mains plugs according to IEC type E and IEC Type F as well as IEC Type C (Europlug) are used also, but in the year 2008 the use was prohibited from Thai government, as the grounding connection is not possible.

There are only a few manufacturers that produce connection cable according to the new standard, even less manufacturers who produce approved and certified models.

American plugs are marked with 125 volts, but in Thailand 220 volts are used, which of course is confusing the users.

Currently, the new standard connectors are only available as a power supply cable, cordset, or plug adapter.

Notes

The numerous older configurations used in Thailand are still valid at this time, but will be discontinued in the future.

Check the required configuration with your customer prior ordering any connector system for the export to Thailand.
